    Get PDF
Substrates to be contaminated and contamination source were prepared. Additional information on paint spray method apparatus was obtained. Silver teflon second surface mirror samples and S 13 GLO paint samples were mounted, photographed under the microscope and measured to establish baseline data. Atomic oxygen cleaning and spray painting are being considered. Electrostatic powder and plasma spray coating systems appear to have serious drawbacks

Birefringent coating for strain measurements on large surfaces contains constituents that can be premixed and sprayed as a single component with conventional paint spray equipment. Elevated temperatures are not required for spraying or curing of the coating material which has long pot life

New Generation Coatings - A Combination of Thermal Spray and Organic Paint Coatings to give Enhanced Corrosion Protection in Aggressive Environments

    Get PDF
There is a great concern about the frequent replenis- hment of paint coatings on certain specfic structures and installations, especially erected in aggressive marine environments. Various analysis have shown that a best paint coating with best surface finish and pre-treatment cannot guaranty a life more than 5 years. Hence alternative methods of protecting such structures in aggressive environment is really the need of the hour. Metal coatings using thermal spray is becoming very popular. There are of course some limitations of thermal spray coatings which can either be overcome by modification of the process or by combining thermal spray with organic paint coatings. Such new generation coatings are now guarantying a life of more than 20 years to 40 years. Principal of thermal spray coatings and their application to structures in highly aggressive environments is discussed in this paper

Characteristic studies on types of paint spray for automotive parts in small and medium industry

    Get PDF
This research studied on characteristics of the conventional paint spray compared to the High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) type of paint spray used in the automotive painting industries in terms of cost and air quality in the spray booths. Characterization of conventional and HVLP of paint spray gathered through experimental methods. Results recorded from the experiments are air pressure, air volume, paint viscosity, transfer efficiency, and overspray. The analysed results are used as parameters in the Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS CFX V.15. The simulated paint spray patterns of the conventional paint spray compared to the High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP), concurred with the findings from the experiments. At the end of this research, it concluded that HVLP has a more stable flow rate compared to the conventional spray gun. HVLP produces smaller droplet size of paint thus reducing overspray impact on hygiene and surrounding environment. HVLP recorded 77.39% transfer efficiency which was 20% more than the conventional spray gun. The spray patternation of HVLP nozzle using ANSYS CFX Version 15 simulated a full cone and symmetry spray right after the paint discharge from the nozzle. In terms of practicality, the HVLP spray gun is more suitable for coating of a car’s part in the SME compared to the conventional spray paint

Paint gun incorporating a laser device

    Get PDF
A spray gun for applying a liquid spray coating, such as paint, to a surface incorporates a light source and detection system for analyzing the position of the spray gun relative to a worksurface in order to optimize application of the coating to the surface. The light source is preferably in the form of a laser which emits a beam of light toward the worksurface. The laser is interconnected with the housing of the spray gun in a location over the spray gun handle so as not to effect the center of gravity of the spray gun. Optical sensors are mounted to the spray gun housing for receiving light reflected from the work-surface, and the sensors are interconnected with a processor for providing the operator with a real time visual indication as to compliance with predetermined paint application criteria. In addition, information can be stored to memory and downloaded for subsequent analysis

Comparative study of antireflection coating materials for solar thermal collectors

    Get PDF
Locally available absorber and antireflection coating materials for solar thermal collectors have been assessed and tested for performance compared to ordinary commercial black paint used in solar water heaters and solar cookers. Absorber plates made of aluminum and iron sheet metals coated with blackboard paint, commercial black paint, and black ABRO spray were prepared. These materials were tested for thermal performance on a natural circulation flat plate solar water heater and plastic bottles. Comparison has been made separately for both absorber material and coating materials which showed that the iron sheet and black ABRO spray to have the highest absorptance. On a clear sky radiation of 973.5W/m2, a maximum stagnation temperature of 99.2°C and 107.5°C is achieved on the black ABRO spray painted aluminum sheet metal and iron sheet metal respectively. This is because ABRO black paint has the highest absorptance for wavelengths of below 2.5μm and low thermal emittance for wavelengths above 2.5μm. During the testing of solar water heaters, an increase in temperature of 14.9°C at the outlet from absorber plate and 7.5°C at the surface of storage tanker has been achieved when using ABRO black spray. This is attributed to the highest absorptance for wave lengths of below 2.5μm and low thermal emittance for wave lengths above 2.5μm of ABRO black paint. As can be concluded, iron sheet metal which is cheap and easily available is best for solar thermal applications and provides significant benefit in cost reduction. Furthermore, the cost for ABRO black paint is similar to other coating materials and it can easily be applied on the surface of absorber materials. Keywords: Thermal collectors, Antireflection, Absorptance, Ethiopia

PT Leon Teknologi is a company engaged in the coating or polishing of raw materials for parts and even assy such as spray painting which has several large customers in the city of Batam, HSG TOP Melitta is a customer in the field of spray painting who has just collaborated with PT Leon in 2020 In terms of quality control issues at PT Leon, visual reject is the main contribution, with a reject rate of 3.5% of the total quantity during the last 6 months of production in the spray painting process, such as Crack on, scratch, White/Black dot and Over painting on Housing Top melitta after printing, Factors Causing Defects on Fishbone analysis, namely from scratch From Human Factors, scratch defects are caused by a lack of production operator training which causes inaccurate operator handling and a lack of understanding of the types of product defects that occur in the production process and methods, namely The lack of clarity on work instructions for the spray painting process caused the spray painting process to be inconsistent with operator procedures and finally the material, which is a type of material that is easily scratched, needs to be reviewed for work instructions on the Melitta upper housing. The Crack factor from Crack is likely to occur in mixing paint with thinner which has a ratio of 1 (Paint): 3 (Thinner) and in general some Spray Painting uses a ratio of 1 (Paint) : 1.3 (Thinner) and some experiments use a ratio of paint and thinner the latest so that out of 30 samples no Crack was Foun
